erase requirements for the 2025/26 school year
Independent schools must have a Primary Safe School Coordinator, who is the person with primary responsibility for the day-to-day operation of a single school/campus. In most independent schools, this will be the school Principal. The Primary Safe School Coordinator must have basic threat and risk assessment training.
All independent schools must have access to a second person with Ministry-approved basic threat and risk assessment training. This individual could be:
- Another Safe School Coordinator from within the same school authority.
- An Association Safe School Coordinator (ACSIBC, AMS, CIS, ISABC, SCSBC)
All independent schools must have support available from an individual with current basic digital threat assessment training
This individual could be:
- The Primary Safe School Coordinator
- An Additional Safe School Coordinator at the school
- A Safe School Coordinator within the same school authority
- An Association Safe School Coordinator
What was formerly known as VTRA training is now being referred to as basic threat and risk assessment training by the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care.
The basic threat and risk assessment training requirements may now be met through erase’s basic threat and risk assessment training (Behavioral and Digital Threat Assessment course) or through VTRA training (through the Center for Trauma-Informed Practice).
While the Ministry recognizes other courses offered through erase are meaningful learning opportunities, no substitutions are permitted in terms of meeting the above two requirements.
