Vice Principal, Choice School, Richmond 

Choice School for Gifted Children is one of 14 Ministry designated Special Education Schools in BC. The particular mandate for Choice School is support of students who demonstrate high academic potential and who qualify for the designation of Gifted. In addition, Choice has developed expertise in supporting students that are classified as Twice Exceptional, those who have a gifted designation and an additional learning challenge.

Features of the learning program at the School are:
• Small class sizes with Educational Assistance support in each class resulting in a 6 to 1 ratio of students to educators,
• Contracted specialists in behaviour management, social emotional support and other support specialists as identified in the Individual Educational Plan in place for each student,
• Flexible grouping for instruction to accommodate students’ pace of learning,
• Out of classroom experiences tied to curriculum content and student interests including outdoor education experiences,
• A dynamic and experienced staff committed to working with our unique learners and their families.

TEACHING POSITIONS

Early Primary Classroom Teacher, Choice School, Richmond

Choice School for Gifted Children in Richmond, B.C. is a ministry-designated Special Education School that specializes in providing an emotionally nurturing and intellectually challenging learning environment for gifted students in grades K through 8. Choice provides an educational context in which gifted children can thrive in small classes with innovative programming, skilled teachers and extensive specialist support.

We are inviting applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) position at the early primary level beginning August 24th, 2020 and extending to June, 30th 2021 or beyond.  Our current need is for a candidate who:

  • Has expertise and prior successful experience in early childhood education.
  • Has a clear understanding of the developmental trajectory of early primary students
  • Applies their understanding of early childhood development to the design of a developmentally appropriate program
  • Understands how to personalize instruction to accommodate the needs of students with a special education profiles
  • Creates an environment that fosters the development of the whole child, and celebrates each child’s creativity, competence and their unique understanding of the world
  • Recognizes the value of learning in a ‘smart context’
  • Is able to team teach and plan collaboratively
  • Is familiar with and committed to curriculum planning and teaching through Problem-based learning, Critical Thinking, Inquiry and Understanding by Design
  • Is an articulate communicator
  • Is fluent in formative and summative assessment practices

Noah’s Ark Montessori Reggio School, Richmond

Noah’s Ark Montessori Reggio School is looking for a dynamic teacher to provide an educational and caring environment for children between 6 to 10 years of age, with a very open and flexible starting date. Noah’s Ark specializes in a full early childhood setting, continuing to Grade 3. This teaching position is full time, with the successful candidate taking responsibility for the shared management of a class of 13-15 children. In addition to this position, the school would also be interested in hiring a classroom assistant. The following qualifications and personal qualities are important:

SUPPORT STAFF POSITIONS

Special Educational Assistant, Choice School, Richmond

Choice School for Gifted Children in Richmond, B.C. is a ministry-designated Special Education School that specializes in providing an emotionally nurturing and intellectually challenging learning environment for gifted students in grades K through 8. Choice provides an educational context in which gifted children can thrive in small classes with innovative programming, skilled teachers and extensive specialist support.

We are inviting applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE) position for a Special Education Assistant beginning August 31st, 2020 and extending to June, 30th  2021 or beyond.  Our current need is for a candidate who :

  • Possesses strong teamwork skills
  • Understands children’s development
  • Is able to support and manage small groups of children
  • Works hard to build healthy and trusting relationships with the children and rest of staff
  • Has experience managing challenging behaviors
  • Has experience working with children with exceptionalities such as ASD, ADHD, Sensory Processing or OCD. Behavioural Interventionists are welcome to apply.
  • Has experience or training working with gifted children

Preference will be given to a candidate who has:

  • Completed a recognized Special Education Assistant program,  a Degree/Diploma in a related field, and/or has had successful experience in an equivalent field
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written

The following are considered to be an asset:

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training (e.g., CPI or MANDT)
  • Experience using techniques of Applied Behaviour Analysis
  • Completion of POPARD coursework
