Playing with Language to Discover How Words Work Engaging Phonological Awareness Instruction in the K-3 Classroom
This POPEY workshop will provide an exploration of how words work through hands-on instruction & practice of phonological awareness skills & strategies.
We will delve into how to design Word Work instruction, routines & activities to create “hands-on, minds-on” experiences for students – to then enable & support effective reading & writing.
Included will be:
• using language in creative & playful ways to help understand how language works
• through developmentally appropriate language games & activities
• transferring phonological awareness concepts & strategies into reading & writing
All educators interested in strengthening early literacy skills are welcome, whether you attended the January POPEY workshop or not.
